Announcing the 24.Gaufest
Banquet Menu!

We are thrilled to share the banquet dinner menu with you. The dinner will consist of brazed beef, pork chops, red skinned potatoes, and green beans for the adult menu. The children's menu (ages 4 - 12) will consist of chicken tenders, mac and cheese, and a vegetable. Dessert is strawberry and blueberry cheesecake served family style. Iced tea, water and coffee will be on the tables, as well as two complimentary bottles of wine. Please remember that a Children's Fest Ticket may be purchased for children 3 and under whose parents wish to provide a dinner plate at both the banquet and picnic events.

Because it can be a long afternoon on Saturday, we will be serving sauerkraut balls as hors d'oeuvres between the Bauernmesse and the banquet.

Don't forget to book your room (they are going fast) and be sure to register online.

"STV Bavaria respectfully requests notification of children under the age of three who will require a seat at the table for both banquet and picnic. A Children's Fest Ticket may be purchased for children under the age of three whose parents wish to provide a separate dinner plate. Thank you in advance for your consideration."

Mit trachtengrüß,

Nairne Benefit Fund

Your hosts of the 24. Gaufest would like to announce that the offertory charity for the Bauernmesse is the Noah Nairne Benefit Fund. Below are a few words shared by Noah’s family:

The journey can be so accurately described as a roller coaster. Following Noah’s initial diagnosis, (Anaplastic Astrocytoma), and later the frightening post-surgical recurrence, (now being referred to as a High Grade Glioma), we started a new treatment protocol (for Ottawa) and after several months everyone, (his doctor and specialists), were extremely pleased with the results. The cancer had shrunk in size and things were looking better than expected. Unfortunately just a couple of months ago our world was rocked once again when there was an obvious progression of the cancer and he developed an extremely rare reaction to his chemo requiring him to stop using it. We were advised to go ahead with any travel plans sooner than later. We immediately contacted the Children's Wish Foundation to inform them of the new developments and started the process of arranging his special wish. His wish was fairly simple; somewhere warm where he can swim and play on a beach and eat and drink when he wanted. Our wish organizer recommended 7 days in Turks & Caicos and after a quick Google search we agreed this would be exactly what he would want. Three weeks later, and a week after a trip to Winnipeg to visit Oma and Opa, Noah was in his tropical dream. He has since started a new chemo regime along with his Avastin and once again, rather unexpectedly, is showing signs of improvement. Noah could no longer continue attending his regular school, (primarily due to Aphasia), for even the limited amount he did, but continues to go to CHEO (Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario) for school 2-3 times a week (over and above his treatment and blood work days). Our battle, far from being over, is ongoing but we continue to be positive and see every day as a blessing.

So many people remark on the strength our family has shown through this challenging time. We can, without question, attribute much of this to the outstanding support we receive from those near and far.

Our family would like to take this opportunity to thank all those that have contributed to the Noah Nairne Benefit Fund. The funds raised (special thanks to Scarlett Russell) have gone a long way in not only easing medical costs but have afforded us the ability to spend more time together. It is not possible to truly express the level of gratitude in our hearts to everyone that has not only aided us financially but spiritually. We thank everyone for their continued support and prayers, as we pray for Noah we also pray for all those facing life’s challenges and those that have been so generous to us. It is emotionally overwhelming to see just how supportive our close-knit community, friends and Trachtenfreunden both near and far have been and continue to be. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Family Time at 24.Gaufest

As the Gaufest quickly approaches, many families are in the process of planning a vacation around the dates of the event. Hopefully many of you have had a chance to skim through Kalahari’s webpage at their various activities as well as attractions in the area. The 24. Gaufest committee has prepared a list of possible attractions and activities your family might enjoy during your stay in Ohio. Gaufest

Within the Gaufest itself, there are several opportunities to get involved! Between Jugend Einzel Plattln, Jugend Einzel Preisplattln, Adult Einzel Preisplattln and Gruppen Preisplattln, every dancer, both young and old, can take their turn at sharing their own personal and/or club style of Plattln and Drehen. The hosts of 24. Gaufest would also like to extend an invitation to all children to visit the Kinder Zimmer! This room will be set up for various coloring activities which will then be posted on a wall together at the Picknick on Sunday for display. This will hopefully show a great representation of the youth attending the Gaufest and also provide a few minutes of time to do a quick activity before the next event. This room will have supervisors but it is required that each child have a parent/guardian with them. (www.24gaufest.com)

Kalahari
For those of you who have been to Kalahari Resorts, you understand the vast size of the property as well as the numerous activities on the grounds; the most attractive of them being the indoor water park. Each guest will have their chance to enjoy this half of the facility with their pass that is included with your room! The grounds also host an outdoor water park, and the Safari Outdoor Adventure Park. This park includes a ropes course, zip line tour, climbing walls and the Safari Adventures Animal Park. Indoors you will also find the Madagascar Mini Golf, Tree Top Play Area, Big Game Room Arcade and Pottery Pizzazz. All of these attractions are geared towards kids and families. Adults can find relaxation by enjoying any of the restaurants or bars on site as well as the Kalahari Spa for a soothing massage or other pampering of your choice. You will never find a dull moment at Kalahari while taking a break between Gaufest events! (www.kalahariresorts.com/oh/>)

Sandusky/Cleveland Area
For those of you planning a vacation before or after the Gaufest, there are some interesting attractions to consider. Just North of Sandusky off of the coast in Lake Erie sits a set of islands that offer several vacation attractions. The African Safari Wildlife Park has become a popular destination for many with its drive-through nature park, exhibiting over 400 exotic and tropical animals. Aside from many places to shop and eateries, you can experience the Islands via the Goodtime Lake Erie Island Cruises. Wineries also sprinkle the countryside near Sandusky. In the Cleveland area vacationers frequent the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame, Great Lakes Science Center, Polka Hall of Fame and just south of Cleveland in Akron, the National Football Hall of Fame. If you find the time, perhaps even check out the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field. The Lake Erie Shore and Islands representatives will be at the Gaufest to offer more information on hundreds of attractions in the area.
